Years ago I fell in love with photography to document my own kids memories. Now I get to slow down and enjoy it a bit more this time around. Soon, they will be welcoming a brand new baby into the mix. Things will never be as they were in this moment.

We have been planning this shoot for a while and Yesterday was the day. A few hours before we were supposed to shoot it got overcast and dark. We decided to just go with it and hope for the best. We arrived at the lake and we sat in the car and thought, “Well, there goes that plan.” But just when I was about to call it quits, the rain stopped, a tiny bit of light came out just enough to tempt us outside.

Now, if you’ve ever tried wrangling multiple kids for photos, you already know it’s a little like herding cats. Especially when there is water to play in. Of course they wanted to immediately jump in.

*Note to self (and if your also a photographer): We needed someone with eyes on them at all times so we could relax and shoot. But we didn't plan for that. Wade always assists me with lighting and gear and he had to be all hands on deck to help keep the babies somewhat dry and focused. It started out so dark!! I was a little frustrated I didn't get to use an external light or reflector, soI tried to keep them positioned so that the water would reflect back any existing light.

They ended up being wet, muddy, and happy! I wanted them to be just as they were in that moment. our little buddy with his blond, messy curls and his baby belly, her with her bright sparkly blue eyes, "piggy bumbles" on top if her head and the vocabulary of a teenager. They are both strong willed and fiercely independent. whatever she does, he does. They are two peas in a pod, best friends.

The night ended up being exactly what it was supposed to be.
