Your headshot is a first impression to the outside world. It attaches a face to your name. Isn't that why we get a headshot? So your client can meet you before they actually meet you? We hope to establish confidence, professionalism and most importantly--trust.
Well, how do I figure out what kind of session would be most fitting for my profession?
Lets start by asking a few questions:
What is your profession?
Do you to wear business professional, business casual, causal attire or do you wear a uniform?
Where and who are your typical clients?
Each can warrant a different style of headshot. So its helpful to establish your needs and use of your images.
For example; are you in finance, law, government, accounting, real estate, banking, marketing, business owner, professional office or tradesman OR are these named your clients? Then a Business Professional Headshot is best suited for you. I typically photograph business professionals on a hand painted backdrop with color/texture, depending if you are wearing cool or warm tones. This image is typically a chest and shoulders shot. I use white for a clean, modern or simple look, or if you are being digitally cut out of the image to use on a billboard/ marketing. Here are a few examples.
Personal Branding
Before personal branding and social media we used to do "Environmental Portraits" for professionals. We typically took your photos in your place of business doing what you did. This helped establish what to expect and how things might look when clients come to see you seeking your services. Now we call it Personal Branding. It's more detailed and personal, but still fun and causal. Personal Branding is perfect for professionals such as a Photographer, Influencer, Creative, Business Owner, Marketing, Real Estate, Writer, Tradesman, Beauty Industry, etc. Another great thing about personal branding is incorporating props that fit your personality and apply to your brand or services. In the studio, personal branding pairs well with a white background because of its versatile and timeless styling options. Personal branding sessions are also great on location or at your place of business. Here are a few examples.
